    Description

Seller Notes: Ungraded, not holed.  A double-plus thick "coin" commemorating the introduction of new steam-powered minting presses into the Potosi Mint, finally getting rid of the old human and/or horse powered screw presses.  The quality of Potosi coins increased tremendously after this (1870-onward).  Burnett included this item in his Proclamation Coinage catalog and gave it a denomination of 1/3 Melgarejo but this should probably be considered a pure medal and not a coin and it is unlikely it ever circulated as currency as the other Proclamation pieces all did.  Silver, ~24mm and ~10 grams.
