    to offer this Spanish colonial silver 8 reales minted in Bolivia in 1802. This coin was not only legal tender as one silver dollar in the US until 1857 but was the unofficial Tr
    ade Dollar of Asia for 250 years until the mid 1930s. This classic silver coin was the primary medium of exchange in China and much of Asia including the Middle East. Of all the merchant chop marked coins which circulated as Trade Dollars, the Carolus IIII or Charles IV was the preferred design.     Please note: this coin was purchased nearly 50 years ago from one of the leading dealers in Latin American coinage. There was a reference that the counter stamp may be attributable to the Middle East. The coin has been bank vaulted for decades and is now being offered for the first time.
